Anyone hear rumors about the "new" Dodge design and engine for 2003 for their 2500's and up? Heard that the HDs will be redesigned and have a new diesel made by ??????. Also heard that the Allison transmission that GM uses in their 2500's and up will be an option. Wonder if the Mayor or mabe we should call the HDs the Governor will be staying with Cummins or moving to another supplier.

Dodge and Cummins have a contract through 2007 for the I-6 diesel in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

Dodge is coming out with a new line of medium duty trucks. These will be about equal to the Ford F550-F650. These are supposed to have a Mercedes commercial diesel engine. Not sure what transmission.

I had heard a rummer that Dodge had signed a contract with Caterpillar to replace the Cummins diesle (the FMCC rep. in Las Vegas stated to me that ford did indead purchase Cummins but had to supply to Dodge untill the contract expired. Thats just what he told me.) But the dodge dealer that is close to my home town stated that Dodge Just signed anouther contract with cummins So who is right and who is wrong I do not Know. I do Know this, if Dodge does end up comming out with a truck that is powered by a cat it will by very interesting seeing considering the fact that caterpiller is a very bulet-proof motor.

 

The last post with about the Cat motor being bullet proof, surely can't include the small Cat 3126B. The little Cat 3126B, is a step child motor at Cat. I owned a 3126 Cat, 300hp version in a 98 Kenworth. It had excessive downtime, 2 HEIU injectors replaced at seperate times, the injector wiring harness replaced twice, a stretched head bolt, injector cross over tubes replaced, one rocker arm replaced, a loss of power concern, solved by refashing the PCM. The best of all, very little response by Cat's Engineering team in Peoria,IL. I know quite a few Owners that have hated the little Yellow motor, and have cost Them many days of downtime, which relates to a lot of lost revenue! The track record for the little Cat is if it makes it to 400,000 miles is almost a miracle. Cat, in the Owner's handbook, says it is ready for a major overhaul at 300,000 miles. Now, that is what I call a long term diesel. The PSD is one hell of motor in comparison, My 94 has outlasted all of the little Cat's, with 600,000 miles on the clock without an overhaul. The 94's second owner sure ain't complaining! The early PSD's had Cat HEIU injectors, and they were somewhat troublesome. SOOO, lets hope Dodge can get Cat to build them a fine little yellow motor, if they do I want stock in Ford, and Navistar! Can I get an Amen for the PSD!!!
