Exclamation 302fi to 400 swap

I have a 87 F-150 that has a 302 fi that Ive had nothing but trouble with. I have a good 400 thats in a 77 that I want to put in this truck. They both have C-6 tranny so I dont see a problem there. I need some advice on what I need to do on the engine mounts?

I believe the tranny bolt patterns are different, so you'll need a different transmission. It's gonna take a lot of new parts on the fuel system to get rid of the EFI, and new motor mounts, possibly some fabrication, etc. because the 400 was never offered in the '87-up trucks.

If the 400 has a tranny with it use that one. As above the bolt patter is different. I think you will have to find new frame mounts to relocate the 400. Maybe a drive shaft also due to change in length or have your's modified to fit. Look in the "engine swap" forum for more info or do a search. You may have to do some suspension upgrades also for the weight increase.

All you would have to do is motor mounts and use the 400 c-6 should be the same length and everything. You might possiably have to get a special set of shorty headers to go inbetween the frame rails on a big block but that should be it.

Do you know if the perches out of an 82 would work because I know they used the 400 up to that year. I just dont know if they mount to the frame the same as the 87. Jegs lists headers for 80-95 400 made by dynomax I dont know if it is just an error or not.
