Tranny leaking

I've noticed my transmission is leaking fluid. I have a 302 with a 5 spd manual trans and the transmision is leaking in the front where there are 3 or 4 bolts holding on the front cover. It looks like it is coming from a higher place than that. I've had the pcv valve fixed but it still leaks. Mechanics have told me that it may be a seal near the engine and to replace it the whole transmission will have to come out. I'm sure this would be an expensive repair so if anyone has had a similar problem i would greatly appreciate any info. If there is no other way i guess i will have to replace the seal they were talking about. Also, does anyone know how much on average it costs to have the A/C recharged?
Thanks.

If it's engine oil, could be the rear main seal or look at the back of the engine and make sure the valve covers are not leaking first. If it's tranny fluid, it's probably coming from the input shaft seal and tranny would have to come out and would be a good time to do rear main seal also.
As far as the A/C you can buy recharge kits with freon for about $15-20, the shops would probably be in the $30 and up range depending on how much freon it takes or if you have any other probs with the system.
