I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'll ask anyway. I just bought a new slider off ebay. Is this a job a do-it yourselfer can do? I did a search but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
I would suggest calling the dealer to find out install cost. You may try your local auto glass shop as well. I have had my fair share of ups and downs doing it myself, it's worth the cost to be done right the first time.
From either lower corner, and from the inside, push the glass panel outward until the rubber seal releases from the pinchweld flange. Yes, tempered glass will bend, more than you would ever believe! Then, from the bed, pull the glass and seal assembly away from the cab. Observe how the seal is placed on the glass panel and remove it. Place the seal over the flange on the new slider assembly in the same manner as it was positioned on the glass panel. Place a 1/8" diameter cord (cotton is best) into the pinchweld channel of the seal starting and finishing at the center lower edge of the window assembly. Lubricate the cord lightly with WD-40 or silicone spray. Allow the cord to overlap about 10" at the start/finish area. From the bed, place the window assembly over the lower pinchweld flange, allowing the cord ends to drape into the interior of the cab. With another person holding the window against the cab from the exterior, pull one end of the cord towards the interior, allowing the lip of the seal to travel over the pinchweld flange and seat on the interior side of the cab. Continue pulling the cord all the way around the perimeter of the window frame until the cord is completely removed. From the exterior, press the window towards the cab to seat the seal.
These instructions are for replacing a single glass panel with an aftermarket slider assembly. If you're replacing a factory slider with an aftermarket assembly (i.e. electric slider) you must purchase a seal for a single glass panel.
If you need more info, e-mail me and I'll help you through it. This is an old-school rope-in installation, none easier for the do-it-yourselfer.
V10DoubleTow, Wow thanks, That was pretty easy! I didn't have anyone handy to help me but if you open the slider you can reach inside and pull the cord around the window. It took me about 15-20 minutes to do the job. I even went to the car wash to spray the window to check for leaks..all looks good. Thank you very much for your help!!!
