I am pulling the 351w in my early Bronco to put in a rebuilt '86 5.0 out of a Mustang. I understand the head limitations because of the pistons. I will be running a carb while I gather the SEFI parts.
1. Does the stock cam in this have the 351w firing order that I will need w/ the mass-air setup?
2. Can anyone recommend a good cam that will work with this year motor? (e.g. Ford e303, TFS, etc...)
3. Is there anything wrong with flycutting the pistons, or buy new ones?
I will be running it through a ZF w/ 4.10 rear end and 33" tires. It is a daily driver. I have not pulled the heads to look at the pistons, but it does have a roller cam.
Thanks for the info...
I tell you now that that Zf is a **** transmission. Run the M50D out of the f series that is a 5 speed instead of that four speed that is really not geared for power. The 4.10 rear end with the M50D will run real good. The 351 is a different firing order I think the firing order for the 5.8 (351W) is 13726548. The Mustang is 13726548. So yeah its the same, wow I learned something today If the motor is a roller cam, The B303 Cam from ford motorsports will work as long as you have the MAF setup. If you have the MAP setup only you will not get as good results. There is nothing wrong with Notching the piston, (if thats what fly cutting is to you) you have to for the E303 cam as it is too much lift.
The ZF 5-speed is a very strong transmission used in f-250s and f-350s and is alot stronger than the M50D used in f-150s. Also the ZF has a granny gear, the M50D dosn't.

Thanks for the replies. I understand that the ZF is much stronger than the other (Mazda?) tranny. It is out of a 3/4 ton F-250, and was supposed to go behind a 408 stroker, but time and money are dictating different things. I have recently found out the motor is an '85, so I think that opens my cam options up. I will also be looking to replace the heads with something better. I was thinking gt-40 or gt-40p, but may settle on a set of e7's until I decide if I am going to keep the old beast and rebuild the 351w. I was thinking about the e303, but I also heard the Crane 2030(?) would be a really good cam. Any input?
