3 things are required for an engine to start, air, fuel, spark. Sounds like you're gettin gas, kinda hard to not have air, check for spark to the dizzy and plugs. if all of these are good then check timing and electronics
Only one side is supposed to be hot. However, if you tested it with the truck running, it may appear to be hot since the negative wire is grounded each time the coil fires, which is many times per second. The volt meter probably can't show that on/off switching, and so it shows a voltage.
Try runnin a wire from the hot on the battery to the hot side of the coil and see if that dont get it running. If that does the trick, then you have either a bad pickup coil on the distributor, bad ignition box, or bad connection between the different ignition parts.
out of sheer desperation, I decided to try and use some starting fluid. the engine coughed and sputtered and tried to start. which meant it really did have spark, but no fuel. weird, I smelled fuel before...
I did notice that the butterflies on the carb were slammed shut, not knowing if that was normal, I propped them open with a screwdriver and the engine started. after it warmed up I took the driver out. it ran fine all day, even after sitting for 5 hours while I was at school.
I dont know what happened, why it happened, or even if the butterflies on the carb are supposed to be slammed shut like that, but it purrs liike a kitten now like it always had before.
