96 F-150 302 timing?

I was wandering if anyone knows if you can adjust the timing on a 96 F-150 302? The repair manuals that I have say that you can't and I don't know why. This model engine has a regular electronic ignition distributer and timing marks on the damper. If you can adjust it, what would it be? Thanks in advance for the help!!

i believe you can just remove the spout connector which i think is on the driver side fender well. but then again your 96 uses obd-II which might not alow this with out diagnostic tools

I believe if you disconnect the spout and adjust- the computer will re-adjust when you reconnect the spout in other words you can't

The computer gets timing info from the distributor. It only adjusts from base timing, so you sure can set base timing and change total timing. Disconnect the spout connector and it should default to base timing so you can set it without computer advance.

on your left inner fender well back towards the master cylndr you should find the spout connector tape up in the harnnes, and i belive your base timming is 10 BTDC. DW
