Question from a C-6 tranny to AOD tranny on a 4.9 ? it possible ?

I drive alot of highway mile's in my 1987 E-150 van ( inline 4.9 )with the C6 3spd tranny, I was wondering what vehicle that has an 4spd AOD that would bolt up to my 4.9. So far Ive found a AOD from a late 80's ford truck, but it has a 5.0 V-8, will it still bolt on ? and is the AOD the same lenghts from Bell to tail as a C6?. what options do I have , other then the EOD from newer 4.9's.

AOD from any small block (302,351w,3.8 v-6, 4.9) will bolt up to your 4.9. You will have to work out the throttle valve linkage and shifter. The c6 drive shaft will not fit but its not a big problem to adjust the length and change the transmission end slip yoke.

Funny thing, I just completed installation on my 88 E-250 4.9 EFI.

You'll definately need:
AOD flexplate, The C6 plate will bolt up, but it's depth is WRONG.

Dipstick & tube can be from 4.9 or V8 van, V8 tube requires a small strap bracket to hold it better.

The TV cable is compatible from V8.

You'll need the "Z" bar for the shift linkage from an AOD van.

Are there any electronics involved in this swap? I seem to remember a solenoid or two on top of the original AODs. Perhaps the converter lock is electronic? Just wondering.

No electronics on an AOD. Just the neutral/backup switch and maybe a speed sensor.
