have you tried running your front with one hub locked and the transfercase in 2wd. i would love to spool my front but i need the 4x4 to get around in the winter and i hate having to get out and lock and unlock my hubs. so if i could just lock one i would have the same traction as before but i could still put it back in 2wd and then both wheels could rotate at different speeds and i could drive on dry roads. Then when i get stuck or get ready to hit the mud i could lock them both and give it hell.
sounds like a plan. that would work perfectly. just remember, its still not going to feel like an "open" diff even when you only lock one hub in. that hub will still try and turn that tire at 100%, which means that when you go to turn it will either not travel far enough. on open diff will compensate for this and the tire will travel the correct distance. these are not good for ice at all.
back to you question. if you leave on wheel locked in and put the truck into 2wd, then yuo will not experience and difference in handeling, or tire wear or anything, but as soon as you put it in 4wd, even with just the one heel locked in you will notice some different, it will be much less that with both wheels locked in, for only one tire will be trying to pull the truck apart.
i recoment doing it, its really cheap, and it a great way to gain a lot of tranction, and if you dont like it, just put the spiders back in and sell your mini spool on ebay, and you are out rpobably a total of 15-20$. just do it!
with one wheel locked and in 2wd you should notice no difference in handleing. but i have not done that. i use my spool for offroad use only. i never run it just in 2wd, or with only one wheel locked up. if you are planning on running on the road with this truck then save a little more and buy LS, and EZ-Locker or something along those lines. but if the only time you are locked up is orr raod then do the mini spool.
