Trans HELP!
I have a 99 F150 4x4 5.4L v8. 4R70W Transmission type. My transmission will not shift in to 2nd. From takeoff it will do just fine until time to shift in to 2nd.....rpms will get to almost 4 grand before it shifts in to 3rd...skipping 2nd. the rest of the shifts are good. I took it to a trans shop and had a diagnostics test ran on it. He said that all of my shift sensors are kicking in correctly....told me he'd have to tear in to it before he knows what's wrong. Anyone else had this prob? Or know what it might be?

if the shift sensors are good it has got to be the aplly servo or the apply band has broken. or it could be a striped sun gear. could be junk in the throtle body but you said the sensors are working. have you called ford and asked them to run the VIN code to check on any recalls or service bulletins? they will normaly do this for free. at least I did when I worked for ford. good luck.

They ran a check on my VIN but no recalls. They weren't very helpful at our local dealership. I just don't see the sense in letting them tear my tranny apart for outragous $$. I've searched the net and found many instances of this occuring on the 99's
