i have a 1995 ford ranger. 3.0l v6 4x4 5 speed. anyways it wont start. wont crank wont do anything. however i can hold the clutch down and turn the key and it will make one click not a gring or a crank but just a click. i think it might be the selenoid switch. any suggestions.
Hi, you should do a quick search on the word "start". You will see all kinds of threads and suggestions.
I had it happen to me last week and it turned out that the starter cable (from the battery to the starter) was just a weeee bit loose. I gave it a tug and it didn't budge but it had just enough play in it that it wasn't making contact.
Other folks suggested that it could be:
1. Bad starter
2. Bad solenoid
3. Dead battery
4. Corroded battery cables (they can corrode on the inside)
5. Bad starter terminals
Definitely run the search on the word "start" and you will see that folks tell how to check all these things.
I agree with Sea's post. One thing that Sea didn't mention, there is a safety switch on the clutch, so it will act "dead" if you try and start it without pushing the clutch in......
