Question Lame Brain Gasket Sealant Question

boy if this won't show how ignorant i am, nothing will.

i'm installing the sending unit in my newly installed mustang tank, (aka jnilion). since the sending unit sits at an angle, i can't get the gasket to stay in place while i get the sending unit installed. a little bit of gasket sealant would do the trick. but since this is a rubber type gasket, i'm not sure what kind of sealant i should be using, if any. the guy at the auto parts place gave me permatex #1b fast drying hard setting sealant. it says use on: cork, metal, plastic, gaskets, pipe, & flanges and it resists gasoline. but the reality of it is i don't trust the guys at my autp part place.

so my question is are my concerns about using this sealant founded, or should i just get off my butt and go get the job done?

thanks,
rick - and a happy new year to all.

HI Rick; If you only need to hold the gasket in place use a little petrolium jelly. It will help hold the gasket in place until you screw the sender in place. If you want to hold it in place permantly I would use weather strip cement. I have found that solvents don't bother it very much. Good luck Ozzie
