Any Information
Also, I am trying to find out the original color of the 50, interior, and any other originals that will help me restore this baby back to its natural state.
I believe that the original color is navy blueish, but not sure. When I got it and it was two tone with a lighter blue and the navy blue.
Please help!
Dan
Hi Dan, and welcome to FTE!
I'm pretty sure they didn't go to 17 digits until late 1951. I could be wrong on this, but you could look your numbers up here:
http://www.johnsf100.com/idplates/4856idplates.htm
The factory colors for 1950 were:
Black, Meadow Green, Palisade Green, Sheridan Blue,
Silvertone Gray, Vermillion (red).
Hope this helps.
Dan, they did have a vin way back then - even all the way back to the 20's (maybe even the early T's too) but it was usually just the engine number. Post-WWII was about the time that a more modern vin was used, but early ones were primitive by today's standards. Your's should be 98RC123456 if a V8 or 97HC123456 if a 6 cyl.
Interior exposed metal was exterior body color with complimentary interior cardboard headliners/kick panels and seats. Firewall insulation cover was just "dark". Floor covering was black rubber. I've seen interiors in brown and black and seats I've seen matched interior color. Repop headliner kits are available in brown, black, gray and red - I'd guess those were stock, but I can't verify all those colors.
That should get you started - welcome to FTE.
I do have one more question for now at least.
How can I find out what assembly plant it was manufactured from? I feel somewhat confident that it was assembled in Dearborn, MI.
I might be in touch again with more questions.
Look on the engine side of the firewall just below the cowl seam and slightly toward the driver's side of centerline. Got the location?
You MIGHT find 1/2" high characters stamped there in a series something like: 7RHI2L6025 This one is from my '48
7 is color code, RH is assembly plant, 12 is day, L is month and 6025 is unit production number. If you can find a stamping I'll help try to decipher it. I have some of the info, but I'm still searching for the rest.
