Question 49 f1 steering column removal

could someone please tell me how to remove the steering column from the steering box in my 49 f1 truck thanks

If you're removing just the outer tube, loosen the clamp at the steering box and the dash ( assuming you removed the steering wheel already) and wiggle the tube upward. Don't lose the bearing, etc.. under the wheel. It may be a good idea to disconnect the horn wire and pull it out first. I also think you may have to loosen the steering box bolts to lower the column. I usually just pull the whole shooting match out of the truck to disassemble it. I've pulled the boxes both ways, jack the truck up and lower the box, or remove the floor plates and bring it up thru that way.

In case you're new to disassembling these trucks, it might be helpful to understand that there is no rag joint to take apart, so you can't easily remove the 'column' from the steering box.

The shaft inside the tube is attached directly to the worm gear with a press-on fit.
