OK, so I found out that the transmission case is cracked and has been welded numerous times.... and not very nicely. The crappy welding job has inhibited the front gaskets from sealing causing a permanent dumping of the fluid. I am thinking it may be wise to purchase a rebuilt one rather than pay $3500+ for replacement of the housing, new hardware, U joint and gaskets and seals then reinstallation.
This is a 1969 2WD F100 with 390FE so it will require I get a C6 automatic transmission. Would you have any pointers for me on this issue?

I didn't catch it in the description: Is the current one a manual or an automatic?

Since it has been welded, I assume it is a manual with an iron case, but you never know.

If it is a manual, and you still want a manual, you might want to find something with overdrive since you're replacing the whole thing anyways.

If it is an automatic already, I'd assume it is a C-6, and it would be easiest to swap in another C-6 .

That or find a new/used case and rebuild what you have. Unless your buying it from reputable place you have no way of knowing what has been done to the trans.

The main problem with welding cast Al is getting it clean enough to weld. Then since you dealing with machined surfaces, they need to be re-machined. Only a few places have this capability to do it right.

Sounds like you are wanting to go from a cast iron case 4 speed to a C6 automatic
So, you need the right C6 case for your FE motor and a flexplate, possibly a different yoke on your driveline, possibly a different length driveline
You'll need flexplate bolts, the crossmember should work,.
You'll need the kickdown link from the carb to the C6
