Sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge. I inherited a 72 f100 with a 240 I6 and a 3 on the tree. its been sitting for 20 ish years. everything I know about these trucks i had to learn to get this one running so I am very new to this. I have been driving it for about a year now and am interested in swapping it over to an automatic trans. I have no idea what im looking for and there seems to be a lot of options out there. I would appreciate some advice or some nudges in the right direction.
You will need a small block Ford V-8 pattern C-4 AT and flex plate. You won't need a c-6 as that would be overkill. Best bet is to find a AT equipped truck as you will need a lot of little pets to finish it. You can buy a C-4 first.
Agreed, find a junkyard truck for all the parts, like the flex plate and flywheel bolts, and the radiator and trans shift and kickdown linkage.
I'd look for a rebuilt C4 or rebuild the one you find at the junkyard
