Hey all, so im in the market for a newer truck pending a purchase of a camper. Im looking for a 17+ 250 or 350 gas and have found several in my price range. I already know that the 6.2 is as reliable as they come, and definitely am not opposed to getting one,but whats everyone's thoughts on the 7.3 long term and high mileage. I could grab one with 152k on it for a decent price but was wondering if anyone has any input on these motors ar higher mileage? Thanks in advance.
I run diesels myself, but there's an outfit locally that runs 7.3's pulling empty containers over the pass and they have some with a lot of miles on them. they've had virtually no problems with them and they plan to buy more. the fuel milage is comically bad that's the only gripe.

Yup, the lifetime fuel mileage on mine is 11.4 mpg but I do mostly around town driving these days. My ‘22 only has 17k on it so I don’t have much to offer on high mileage.
If you are looking at trucks with over or around 100k, get the 6.2. The engine is a juggernaut. Of course im biased because I own one!! Oh, and if you can find a 4.30 truck, even better!!
My 6.2L has 80,000 miles and has been in a shop once, in the last 5 years, for a leaky rear diff seal... Best truck I ever had except for the stock fuel mileage, which now is respectable, with the things I have done to make it like it should have come from the factory...
Thank you all for the responses, im well aware of the reliability of the 6.2, i have a 2012 with 250k and its been an amazing truck, but sadly rust has gotten the best of it and im soon going to have to part ways with it. I love the 6.2 and how it pulls, i had just seen a lot of posts about how much better the 7.3 was so i figured id ask and get some real world feedback about longevity.
2020-early 2022s 10 speed 10R140 transmissions had a CDF drum with flawed design which could caused shifting issues. The design was changed and went into production sometime during 2021-2022.

So will all this being said, seems ill stick with the 6.2 platform. Any major difference between the 11-16 vs the 17+ other than aluminum body and slight torque bump?

2017+ have a fully boxed frame. F-250 6.2L moved to the 6R100 trans in that year (F-350 kept the 6R140). 2017+ 6.2L also got a torque and power improvement, which includes the IMRC system that infamously clacks/knocks but doesn't seem to actually hurt anything.

It comes down to your price range. As mentioned and as you know 6.2 is pretty much bullet proof. 7.3 had some lifter issues but was hit and miss. But a 7.3 in a newer truck even with high miles is going to cost some.
Here is my '21' and finishing up a 11 day work week with 250 more miles to finish today. They'll be 263,000 miles on the truck by end of day. Unless something unforseen happens should be near 300,000 by end of year. Normal maintenance, replaced the throttle body around 200k miles. Been a great truck.

What have you done that actually got you better mpg and how much better? Other than not pushing so hard on the skinny pedal.
Had lunch with my brother today.
Lost his 7.3 to lifter failure @ 120,000 miles.
Oil changes between 3500 and 5000 miles.
Has a 2015 6.2 with over a half a million miles on it.
build date November 2022.
