I’m currently trying to decide on what to buy for my first hot rod project (a 1967 Galaxie or a 1969 F100) and the only thing stopping me from deciding is what a subwoofer setup would be like.
I’m wanting to see what people here have to say about how good the bass can be in a 1969 since there not much room to work with.
Thanks!
I haven’t done it yet but I’ve been a fan of small, hidden subwoofers.
kicker makes a decent 8” comp RT subwoofer that doesn’t need a large box. Had it in a Bronco but it wasn’t enough.
jl audio makes a great 10” that’s very flat.
i would build around either of these depending on your music choice. Electronic/hip hop/anything with tubas go with the 10”. Regular music go with the 8”.
another option if you don’t need bass is to get decent 6.5” components. A good woofer can get down to 50hz without much issue.
if you’re inclined, a decent location for a small 8”sub box that I don’t see too often is under the dash over the trans hump.
You can just see my sub box behind the seats in this pic. Gas tank has been moved to under the bed which leaves room for a box in that area. Mine is an 8" but there is room for something larger
I just put a Kicker HS-10 ($400) in my 1996 F150 under the middle seat. This thing JAMS! It puts out plenty of bass, is fully adjustable and self powered, Nothing else to buy for bass. It says it fits everywwher and just about will. You could mount it on the back wall if you dont have enough space under the seat.
In my '77 F100, I have a Kicker 48TCWRT122 ($350) powered by an Alpine S-A60M amplifier ($175) and it sounds good, but for the room, money and install of this versus the Hideaway, I would have gone that route if I had known it sounded as good as it does.
I run a decent system in my truck I made the largest box possible, and run two expensive shallow 10s, sealed, with lots of power. I was gifted the equipment by the CEO of RF, because he liked my truck.
