I solved my obstructed license plate problem!

JK! this is an old picture as you can tell by my 48-52 tail lights and my 54 F100 vanity plate and my red turn signals and my drooping right side tailgate buckle. All have been changed over the years.

matter of fact today I am going to work on using my recently purchased tail light brackets with bumper. I hope my wires reach the adjusted higher position.

Yeah I’ll agree real trucks don’t have no sissified rear bumper anyways. Problem solved!

Even without a bumper before my truck was fixed up and painted the license plate was obscured.

As usual, things didn't go smoothly. I was going to move the truck into the driveway to give me more room to work. But it started to rain just as I went out to the garage. So I pushed the truck front to give me two feet of space. The holes for the bolts to attach the LH bracket I bought were too small for the bolts. So drilled them bigger. Then of course I had raw steel in the holes so I painted the bracket. It had to dry so I worked to put the NOS RH bracket I bought recently in place. I got the old bracket off then discovered my ground wire to the TS was not long enough since these brackets for rear bumpers attached one bolt hole higher. So I spliced a wire to the ground wire. To finish I had to fix the little bracket I made years ago to hold the TS lamp. I had to drill another hole then I had to paint it. So I quit and will attach tomorrow. The wires on the LH side are long enough.

No pictures.... some tomorrow.

edit: I found an old picture showing the little homemade bracket I made to hold the TS lamp. That had to be moved to the outside bolt of the tail lamp .

I got the tail light bracket for trucks with rear bumpers on the truck today. The hardest thing was finding enough slack in my taillight and TS wires to move the lights higher. Boy was I happy when the tail lights, brake lights, turn signals and hazards all worked.

You can see the plate better. The RH bracket is an NOS bracket. The LH bracket is slightly different and you can see that. I have a right hand bracket that matches the LH bracket but it looks like it was homemade and is rough. It needs cleaned up primed and painted. Or I can wait until I find an NOS LH bracket.... but they are made of unobtainium. And I don't like the way the turn signal lamps look.

I see what the difference is now, my bumper curves in more than yours, I'll bet mine is a aftermarket. I have to mount the brackets in front of the square with the 3 holes, your is mounted on the rear of it.

actually if I moved my bracket to rear looks like tailgate would hit it when down.

This week I took off NOS RH taillight bracket off and put on one I found on eBay that matches the LH bracket I bought from Midwest Early Ford. It looks like it was homemade. It matches the store bought LH bracket perfectly. It was only $12.95 but was raw steel with rough edges. I cleaned it up and softened the edges with a wire wheel, primed and painted it black. Of course the holes were too small so I had to drill them larger and then paint again. If you need one the link is below 👇.

With the NOS RH bracket. The RH is higher than the LH bracket .

Both taillights are now the same height and same distance away from the bed.

I think it looks better now but I don't like the way the TS lamps look attached to the brackets. With my old "no rear bumper brackets" the TS lamps looked good above the taillight but with these brackets they stick out more and you see more of my homemade bracket to hold the TS lamp. I'll have to think of a better way. Now the only thing left is to find that young over efficient college cop that wanted to cite me for an obstructed license plate. Then apologize to him.

Hi Abe, yes that does look symmetrical and a good distance away from the bed and bumper. Nice
