I’m trying to keep my truck 100% original, but my mechanic thought it would be a good idea to weld the seam closed. Now I’m looking for an authentic-looking used crossover from that period. Thanks to anyone that can help. Michael
The used one on Ebay is a bit much $$$. I'm sure you know this, but I'll just mention welding rusted thin metal can be done but usually not as clean of a job as non-rusty.
I think I have one I could send to you for the price of shipping if you want me to take pictures of it. It's solid but not shiny new metal so might match your exhaust patina.
I couldn't recall the details, so I had to dig it up. It does have a clamp at the seam. Not me, it was on there when I bought the truck and from the looks it's been on there for a while. I couldn't take much for it since it is used. Clamp could be removed but not sure if it would leak there.
Yes, it's supposed to be a slip joint, so the clamp is not a great idea even if it's leaking there. Just be aware that if the joint is rusted together it can lead to the exact same issue. Rust welding is very similar to welding. That's why I recommended new without initially going into the details.
