In the mid/late 1940s in New Zealand There were a lot of imports of cab/chassis for conversion into various models, including delivery vehicles,
ambulances. My interest is in ambulances and also in locating information on a specific ambulance as per photo.
I am need advice on what the cab/chassis in the photo model number etc. The conversions were carried out in New Zealand by several local bodybuilders.
Are there any export records from the USA , of the model you ascertain that it is. Year, model, serial#., New Zealand Importer. Also if the vehicle was right hand drive or left hand drive on export from USA.
To me it looks like the sides are plywood and the rest is built like a conventional woodie wagon. There were jailbar woodie wagons built during the war that were painted in olive drab.I built a jailbar wood wagon from a 1/2 ton pickup and it looks a lot like the pictured vehicle. Do you know if the one in the puoto has a steel body or wood?

The vehicle had steel sides and possibly a wood lining on the inside. How would I find 1946 Jailbar sent to New Zealand possibly in ckd or chassis only.
Thankyou
Charles
The data plate, serial/vin could provide some information including a body code indicating if it was just a chassis, a closed cab, etc etc etc.... I believe most exports would have come from Canada, not the USA.
