Hey all;
What's the best brand of ball joints? I would have normally used MOOG, but I've heard they've jumped the shark when it comes to quality. Anything worth using now?
The "best"? Dynatracs, but those are at a different price level. The Spicer's have a good reputation for less money. If it were me, I would try the USA made Kryptonites - great company and the ball joints are reasonably priced.
Here is a pretty good , recent thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-2024-a-2.html
I also used the XRF million mile ball joints. Have had them on my Ex for over a year and they have held up well and the truck handles great. They are a heavy duty product.
My alignment guy used Moog, and I am pissed,
the steering is so stiff, I have to use two hands to change lanes.
I used to be able to use one hand lightly.
I bought and XRF kit to replace that crap, when it gets warm.
Crazy i see this post as I am researching ball joints right now for my 2002 F350. I replaced the whole front end on my 2001 F350 i used to have back in like 2021, and i put MOOG ball joints in. Didn't have an issue installing (i used my Milwaukee impact and ball joint kit), but i had "memory steering" and it was extremely tight. i hated it. I had already heard MOOG went downhill years before but i bought them anyways. i was rear ended a year and a half ago in my 2001 and now have my 2002 that needs a whole new front end. I heard that the balljoints could get bound up on install so i redid it again and no difference. I'm probably going to go with XRF or Dynatrac joints this time.
XRF was sold. I've had good luck with my ball joints over the years but a more recent issue with a new sway bar end link led to a bad experience with their customer service department. I won't be a returning customer myself but may consider Apex, XRF founders new venture.

Yup, i decided I am going to run their ball joints. There isn't much about them out there and i think they just started up about 3 years ago, but started with Jeeps. They only list the 2 outer tie rods for this gen Super Duty, but the 05+ they have the entire front end. I emailed them to see if they have something in the works or if that is all they have. Hoping to hear back by Monday. Probably make a new post showing what i get, and then the before and after install for it so there is at least 1 post about it.
I've had good luck with the napa house brand ball joints. I actually had a lot of problems with Spicer and quality and tried several sets and all had problems with being too lose, too tight or having play right out of the box. That was also during covid so might have been the typical covid quality problems we saw everywhere...

Hopefully. Out of curiosity, where did you order your Spicer parts?

Ventures truck parts. At the time were highly recommended by others on the forum. The vendor stood by the products and warrantied them without question.
