5.4L 3v / Cylinder Head: Lash Adjuster - Bore Hole
2009 Ford F-150 XLT, Supercab - 4x4
V-8 / 5.4L (330 Cu In) 3v Triton (FLEX)
Milage: 165K (Miles)
So let me first say this is the first time I've really dug into a 5.4L / 3V for anything engine related.
I have no idea what the lash adjuster bores within the heads are supposed to look like much less what's normal.
I removed the cylinder heads for cam related issues. Figure I'd look around and clean things up at the same time.
When I removed the lash adjusters, I was inspecting the bore holes that house them. At the bottom of the lash adjuster bore is another hole, (Not the oil feed hole)...looks very odd.
On the Rt side cylinder head each of the 12 lash adjuster bores have them, but the holes within each are in a different location & the hole size and shapes are differant...which i also thought was weird.
Additionally, the holes are not symmetrical, it looks as thou the metal was eaten away or was punched out some how?
The holes are in different locations even when comparing the Right & Left cylinder Heads against one another.
If you’re familiar with these heads, please let me know if it’s normal or not...(Ford-isum)?
Thanks for your time!
Stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once.... yes
Those do look like they were created by something "bad".
I am trying to remember if I saw ANYTHING like that the last time I was inside a 3v & I really don't think I have seen that before.
Is it possible this engine jumped time at some point & bad things happened?
