Hi, bought my friends 1998 4.6. It didn't have fuel pressure at the rail when I bought it. I put in a Delphi pump and a new fuel filter. It was parked for a year or so and I have complete trust in him when he says it was running when parked. I also had to install a new battery. I have a HF fuel pressure gauge. Checking at the rail I never get any pressure. The truck cranks and cranks but doesn't start. I hear the pump prime every time. I have - checked and swapped fuses and relays. Checked the inertia switch. Replaced crank sensor. Replaced pressure regulator. All the fuel lines look great from the outside. I don't see any fuel leaks anywhere. I even pulled the ECM just to visually check the board - no leaking capacitors or bad traces. I have just a cheap code reader - no codes detected. I'm completely stumped by it. I have fire at the plugs. It just seems I never get any fuel pressure at the rail...I hear it prime every time. I really don't know what the ECM needs to turn the pump on and stay on vs just a prime? I can jump the relay in the PDB and make it run with a wire/paper clip. The original pump even sounds like it was working when I tested it outside the tank. Thanks for any help!
Is there gas in the tank? I can't tell you how many times I've seen folks trouble shoot a fuel problem caused by an empty tank back in my Aero Space days lol.
