New to Broncos
First ride—a summer’s worth of pulling calves at the local dairy.
We’ve got it cleaned out and started sorting out the engine bay. I know we’ve got a 351 but not sure if it’s original to the rig or not. It’s got custom headers and an edlebrock carb. He crawled under it today and the casting number starts E3AE. I was expecting an E3TE casting (or more like E6TE or E5TE) designating a T for Truck engine. If I understand the castings an A block is for full size cars, suggesting the original motor was replaced for one of a similar vintage.
351 with aftermarket air cleaner, carb, and headers.
Does anybody know if these Broncos came with AE blocks?
According to Ford’s catalog from 86 the Broncos with the 351 had a Holley 4180 carb and a marine cam with an HO designation on the air cleaner. The only thing that may remain is the cam, but I wouldn’t be able to ID it even if I pulled it out. Doesn’t change much if it isn’t the original motor but it’d be nice to know what we have.
Thanks!
