Looks to be well built and bigger. If I had a later year model 7.3L with the plastic end tanks and was having issues, I'd definitely consider these. Both of our trucks are early model 7.3L's which have the aluminum end tanks, so unless something goes wrong or I decide for much more power...which probably won't happen...then yes I'd look closer at these.
I scored a 6.0 banks intercooler a while back on marketplace for a steal of deal. Just ain't got around to throwing it in yet. I need to get around to that and see if I notice a difference.
Need correctly sized boots to fit the 6.0 IC into a 7.3 engine bay. Otherwise plug and play.
Back when I installed the Mishimoto 6.0 I was towing a 5er and I noticed a drop in EGTs in the mountains. I enjoyed that combo for a dozen years until CA smog failed me for it. Swapped in OEM. Since then I have not towed the 5er yet EGTs look pretty much the same around town. Of course the test would be towing the 5er in the mountains but I cannot replicate that atm.
So basically I have no valid test results to confirm but I'd gladly use a 6.0 if I could.
When Hypermax introduced the Tapercore in 1999 / 2000, the price was $800.
Then the retail price jumped to $1,200 after 9/11, but the "sale" price was still in the $900 range.
Then for a long time the retail price was $1,600, on sale for $1,200.
Then the retail price broke the $2,000 range, while the sale price was still around $1,600 or more, but not less.
Fast forward to today... $4,000? Wow. I should have bought a bunch of those things 25 years ago, which would have done better than a couple of my stock picks.
Gold per oz could be had for ~$300 for a brief spell back around that same pre-9/11 time period. Unbelievable. The million dollar question of course is whether the gold or intercooler is really THAT much more valuable today, or the currency by which its price is measured by is just that much more worthless. In reality probably some of both.
I put a 6.0 intercooler in mine a couple years ago since it was a 10 minute job at the local junkyard to extract. Supposed to be plug and play except for the boots, but I had huge interference with tranny cooler. No way it was going in as is. I was swapping to the big Mishimoto cooler the next week so I just used tyraps on the old cooler to support it but bringing it up as a potential concern. I do not know if my trans cooler was stock or aftermarket….
