Dash 4x4 light switching back to AWD?

Dash 4x4 light switching back to AWD?
Guys,
The dash 4x4 light on my '98 Expy switches from 4x4 to AWD
(back and forth with a loud CLICK) when it's in 4x4 hi and even low?
I've searched the forums for the problem, but it's not the "blinking/flashing steady on and off" problem that others have had, it seems to "click" in and out of 4x4 every couple minutes? Engages okay, just clicks in and out?????
Is this supposed to do this? I've never used the full 4x4 hi until today's snow storm so I'm kinda lost here.
Is it the dash switch or is it a sensor on the tranny? I hope the darn aftermarket warranty covers it!
