Bought a Gen 1

Can’t believe it, but I snagged a relatively clean and unmolested 2011 Raptor today. $15k for a Screw with 175k miles.

I think she’s utterly stock besides AFE CAI and some Morimoto headlights. Shocks have a 11/2024 rebuild sticker. Nice little bonus.

She recently came out of West Virginia and ended up in Florida. WV left her with some rust on the cab corners and the bed supports/rails. So I’ll be doing so cancer correction at some point. Luckily rust isn’t really a thing here in GA where I live, so shouldn’t progress.

I normally make a Build Thread for my rigs. So I’ll do the same here.

Planned Changes

Exterior:
  • Fix cab corners rust
  • Weld new bed crossmembers on
  • Wire wheel underside and apply rust converter
  • Pull flares and do general cleaning/preservation
  • Ranch Hand Grille Guard - Done
  • Swing out Bed Toolbox’s - Done
  • Backlight the “SVT” on fender emblem - Ordered some supplies. Have an interesting backlighting idea
  • Convert all bulbs to LED - Done
    • This caused hyperflash. Used FORSCAN to disable blown bulb detection. Flash returned to normal
  • LED Tails Blacked Out - Done
  • LED Front Mirror Turn Signals - Done
  • LED Rear Mirror Turn Signals - Done
  • Install Foglight's - In Hand, need to find install time

Interior:
  • Spare Keys - Done.
    • Again, FORSCAN to the rescue. Programmed +2 keys so I'd have spares
  • Vantrue E2 Dashcam - Done
  • Fuse 27 relocation - Done
  • Tesla style Radio - Done
  • Repair a 1” tear in drivers seat leather
  • Repair steering wheel “stripe” - In hand
  • Rear Seat Latch Release - Done
  • ProClip Phone Mount - Done
  • LED bulbs swap for cabin lights - In Hand
  • Convert to Headlight switch with Fogs - Ordered
  • 360 degree camera system
Performance:
  • Reman Valve Body - Done
  • Lead Frame replacement - Done
  • Transgo Shift kits - Done - Trash. Avoid
  • Transgo Heater Bypass - Done
  • Fumoto Oil Drain Valve F-106 - Done
  • Exhaust - Has a louder muffler installed. Nice rumble, will be leaving alone
  • FORSCAN - need to read the FAQ's. This generation has way more options than my Excursion
  • Tuning - Not sure how I feel about this. I do have a SCT X3 not being used…
That's about it for now. I’m sure I’ll add more as I dig into the common stuff. Haven’t had a F-150 since 2009, so out the loop a hair.

Had some fun with FORSCAN last night. What an amazing program. Ended up programming 2 keys (3 total now) and fixing my hyperflash. The LED bulbs work/look great. enabled Global up/down. but didn't test it yet. Real life saver here in GA to get the hot air out before hopping inside the cab

I'm going to go back in and adjust the "tap to turn" blinker settings. currently 3. I want it to do 5 blinks. Also need to enable the foglights on with high beam.

Welp, that didn’t take long. Looks like I’m a Lead Frame victim. Popped a CEL this morning. I pulled a P-0705 code. Then it cleared itself magically.

hopped on Amazon and got the parts cannon going. I was hoping to avoid this. Using the Dorman unit vice Motorcraft. They seem to have the same success vs DOA rate. And I can get the Dorman now vice 2+ weeks

know what I’m doing this weekend.

Ungodly hot today, so I did a few small things while waiting for temps to drop.

-updated Sync 1 to latest revision
-got around to looking at Fuse 27. It’s already been relocated. Score!
-installed rear seat latch release. Best $15 ever
-had my kid remove the mud graphics. The vinyl was fairly new
-replaced both sprayer nozzles and unclogged the water supply line. Sprayer works great now
-installed swinging toolboxes. Not bad. Not great. Keeping the tonneau, so went with a different style box this time.
-installed Vantrue E2 dashcam

Old tails had some sort of crackling/damage.

New taillights installed. So much better. Had to seal them to ensure watertight. #1 complaint about them on Amazon. Think they’ll be good now

Installed a Tesla style Android radio. So much better than the Sync 1/Navigation setup. I can’t believe how crappy it was. Wish my truck had been a Sync 2/3 though, lots of features I can’t utilize because it’s only Sync 1

oh well, good upgrade regardless. Apple CarPlay is essential these days for a radio

TikTok of all places. I’d been looking at the $35 version and this popped up.

Belated congrats, and nice Gen Juan... Go for the tune. The 6.2 is a hoss, and responds fairly well to tuning... The shift strategy makes the most improvement though.

to be brutally honest, I'm not exactly good at adulting in vehicles. The 6.2 already spins the tires shockingly easily. If I tune it, I absolutely know I'll end up spinning the tires all the time. I remember how I drove my old F-150 with a Roushcharger...and the SRT 392 Charger I just got rid of this year. Was replacing a pair of tires around every 6 months. I moved back to a truck with the intent of saving some $$$ on tires and whatnot.

very tempting though

1. Finally got around to figuring out why it sits so high. Turns out I’ve got TSW/Gieser setup on mid-perch. Rear looks factory. Not really wanting or needing 37’s…but they’ll fit. So maybe going down that road when these 35’s wear out

2. eBay radio was messing up. Poor screen quality and heated seats weren’t compatible. Fought the seller, but ended up returning it and putting factory back in. Ordered a Phoenix Tesla style radio. Waiting for it to get shipped.

2 different instances of P0705 happened last night. 2 weeks since last time. Went ahead and ordered the Transgo SK 6R80-A Shift kit last night and a new valve body gasket; Lead Frame, filter, and fluids in hand. Just been lazy. I'm going to do the Lead Frame and shift kit install this weekend if the parts show up. Scared she will gear drop into 1st while at highway speeds. Looks like the Excursion is back to daily driver until this is fixed.
