Any shop recommendations in Richmond (West End), VA or nearby areas?
As the title states, I'm looking for a shop(s) to take my 2016 to. I'm looking to address a suspension/steering issue after a 2.5" ReadyLift leveling kit (that I installed) and an oil leak down the front of the engine. I typically do my own vehicle work, but I no longer have enough time.
I have been working with a long-established shop on Broad Street regarding my suspension issue, but I have lost faith in the current staff.
I recently took my car to Heverner's, in Chesterfield County, just off Rt. 10.
I was told they were good honest people. While I was waiting there one of the techs. came out to talk to a lady also waiting on her car. He told her it had passed inspection. She asked him a question about something I didn't really catch/hear. He told her it looked fine but why was she asking. She told him she'd had a Toyota a few years ago that had that part fail and leak. He agreed that had been an issue with that model but her car was fine. He did tell her that if she wanted it replaced just to be sure they'd be glad to give her a quote for the work. She told him that if it was in good shape she was fine with that.
I don't know if they do suspension work or not but you might call and ask. We're probably about 20 or 25 miles from the West End.
I've always tried to do my own work as well but sometimes you have to go to a shop.
Thanks. I'll look into them if I cannot find something a little closer. I camp at Pocahontas SP regularly, and my kids play soccer in that area as well. As for my memory steering issue, I discovered that the caster shims were putting too much stress on the upper ball joints, causing the steering to be too stiff. Once I disconnected the steering linkage, it was an easy check. I just wish it wasn't me who discovered this. I installed a set of BDS radius arms that correct for 2-4" lifts and was able to change my shims from +2.5 to +.5 degrees, greatly reducing the stress on the ball joints. The memory steering seems to be mostly gone. I think my passenger upper ball joint may have gotten damaged from all the extreme angles, since it is still somewhat stiff when torqued. The driver's side is smooth and does not require any significant effort to move back and forth.
