The clockspring on my 2005 Explorer opened up. FoMoCo says I need a 4C5Z-14A664-AA clockspring. Dealer parts man says it is discontinued and none available nationwide.
The parts man also said a few Mercury and Lincoln vehicles used the same one for 2005. I really don't want to try to solder this item, but I'm willing to try it.
Can anybody give me an aftermarket part number? TIA.
I Googled that part number and it appears the part is available from prosteeringcolumn.com with a list of what other vehicles that part fits. You may also want to consider finding a low mileage one at a salvage yard, or doing some research on Ford part number formatting. I don't recall which numbers are the form/fit numbers, but it seems if the middle 6 are the only ones really significant that opens up your options greatly.

I also saw that site and I considered buying it from them until I saw the word "used" in the description. I guess if I'm going to buy one, it will be a new one or hit the local salvage yard. Looks like there are no new ones to be found and the aftermarket seems to have forgotten
about this model.
Thanks for your time and effort.
