Vermont October 2025 BS - time to get your prep done for winter and get the candy ready

Good morning Vermont and FTE land. Another month has disappeared. Time to get all outdoor projects buttoned up that you put off in September. Have a terrific ta-ta Tuesday

Good morning Jim and wandering rodents. Got the bulk of the elm tree blocked up. Bit of a challenge because I have a 20” bar and the trees around 30” diameter. Tried counting rings and id guess the tree is over 100 years old. Jim is right, the first warm up is already done. Now to split and stack for the second warm up.

Have a great day.

Good October One Vermont, Jim, Shawn, Bud and all the crew on the nice Fall morning. Started at 64°, overcast, a light brief rain, headed to about 75°, partly sunny, no rain the rest of the day - if it does I will take and enjoy it and the evening will be cool in the 60's and overcast.

I hope all the Woodchucks had a wonderful ending to September and a spectacular start to the new month. Remember Halloween is in about 4 week and time to get your costume ready but Do Not take you mask off until Halloween. We don't want the kids too scared early and not enjoy Halloween!

Good morning Shawn. I didn't know the elm was that big. I love those American elms, but we get to thank Asia again for another lovely native species destruction.

Good morning Rod. Another sunny breezy day here, should be around 70F. That is why I'm taking time off to take advantage to get some things wrapped up

Good evening, Jim it was a nice day in WV with a little sun and 75° and very little breeze and It really felt good. It looks like the weather will be nice the next few ways and a sunny 80° and I can actually mow the lawn and make it look a little better. I suspect the dead grass and dirt spots will not see grass until mid-spring.
So, I to can start getting things winterized outside.

We got to around 70F yesterday and mostly sunny. I pressure washed the mower decks to give them time to dry before I undercoat them.

Good morning woodchucks. Going to spend the morning blocking up the rest of the room tree. Sad to see it end up like this, it was a beautiful tree for many years before the damn elm disease killed it. I hoped that we might avoid that since it was the only elm tree for miles around. I don't know how the elm disease propagates but it finally got here.

Cool and cloudy, a perfect day for chainsaw work. Have a great day.

Howdy Vermont woodchucks and Patriots....

My guess is china purposely brings destructive plants and animals into the US to help destroy us.....

I am busy painting house. Trying to get done before cold temps put an end to it. I expect to have to finish come Spring.

Here in Great Falls the Elm trees have taken a huge hit thru the years.....

Have fun today....

Good morning Shawn. If it wasn't for that damn disease, they would live for hundreds of years. I don't think I've ever seen a big one blown over. There is a nice big one over on 100 headed to Waitsfield. Used to be a big one on the East Barre dam. Was sad to see that one die. Now the ash trees are being killed fast with that damn ***** ash beetle.

Happy Hump Day Vermont, Jim, Shawn, and all the Woodchuck Crew. I am seeing fewer and fewer Whistle Pigs on the side of the road as it is cooling off. The ones I have saw are FAT little Pigs and should make it until next Summer!
It looks like another nice Fall Day in my woods. Started at 59°, headed to about 70° and partly sunny!

Jim, sometimes we have to take timeout and get things done.

Shawn, the Dutch Elm disease is transmitted via various bark beetles. It is a fungal disease on the vascular system of the tree.
