What engine is in my 2010 Raptor SVT
My sister's 2010 truck is the SVT model, and I just watched a YouTube video about how bad the Cam Phasers are in that guy's Raptor.... Ford refuses to warranty the repairs....

Why Ford Is Failing And I'll Never Buy Another One - Share Your Stories! Come along with me as we talk about the most horrible service and reliability experience that I've ever had with any vehicle in my history of driving.
I had good luck with the modular plaform considering, but i wouldnt ever buy another. Good to know that the 6.2 is crap too. Probably would only buy a coyote at this point for Ford.
Money isnt made selling cars, its selling loans.
Its so much deeper than thisans poor story, especially since this isnt just a ford issue.
The reason i bought the excursion is because we felt it was a good platform and we didnt need debt to buy it.
what I want to know, is what engine is in my sister's 2010 SVT Raptor
looking at the VIN ID card doesn't tell me,
ran the VIN thru a decoder and that didn't tell me.
OP- post your vin or pics. Pop the hood and the engine cover should say which one it is.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
so, today was the first sunny day in a week, and I got a picture of the cover.
and found what I did NOT want to see, it is the 5.4L with Cam Phasers.
FordTechMakuloco shows those things destroying engines every week, not an encouraging thing to see.
it has about almost 58,000 miles on it, and I am trying to Justify keeping the truck, or selling it before the Cam Phasers break.
I have only seen ONE instance of a 5.4L Cam Phaser that was still running at 400,000 miles w/o having been touched, it had been using Pure Synthetic oil, and FordTechMakuloco posed the Question??? did it last that long because of the synthetic oil, or because the Customer changed the oil every 3,000 miles w/o fail ???
.... based on that one instance of a long term running 5.4L, I am inclined to stay with Synthetic oil, and change it on, or before 3,000 miles.
So, do I keep this truck, or get rid of it while it is still worth mega bucks??
It drives nice, the gadgets are the cats-meow, Except for the Navigation piece of crap, which is useless..... trying to set up a Destination takes eons of time, nothing Intuitive about it at all.
I will stay with my Garmin GPS and my backup, Google Maps.
One note:
my sister's husband bought this truck with his Retirement savings, as a "Reward" for sticking to one company long enough to get a Pension check.
it is paid for long ago, the insurance is the only cost for us now.
But, knowing it can break, keeps me from driving it very much.

it pulled a 6,000 lb trailer from Price, Utah to Tulsa, Oklahoma easy enough.
I found though, that on steep inclines, I had to push the throttle in advance of the hill, because the Cruise Control comes into play, way too late, and it bogs down.
but empty?
as it will be 99.5% of the time, it is okay.
I have a 7.3L Excursion for the heavy trailers.
it gets a lot better fuel mileage than that Raptor does pulling trailers, or empty even.
with an unknown prior history,
had to establish a baseline.
the dash was complaining about needing an oil change, wonder how long that has been going on?
those big honkin AT tires are for crap, had them balanced twice now, and they still bounce all over the road.... tires are too expensive to be changing them "just cause" I don't like them.
they have been very good for me in the past, I take all of my maintenance stuff there, if it on late model cars/trucks.
on my 2001 chevy truck and my Excursion, I go to an old fella who will only work on non-electronic vehicles.
he does all of my chassis type work, for half what other big shops charge.
I pay him cash, and he looses the Invoice, so I get it for a cheaper cost than folks who call him and "gotta have this done now"
I tell him, if $$ work comes in your door, push mine back, I am not in a hurry, and he appreciates that.
