Does the brake fluid reservoir separate front from rear?
I was hit in the rear and lost fluid on one side of the rear. Pretty sure it's brake fluid as I just topped off the brake fluid and it was low. I just topped it off again and I'm wondering if the front and rear have any separation inside the reservoir on top of the master brake cylinder?
I know the older setups would have a separator all the way to the top, while some designs have two reservoirs, but this one is clearly shared for at least part of the reservoir.
I thought one of the safety features was that if you lost the rear brakes, you'd still have the front brakes, yet it seems that it's pulling most of the fluid out.
Yes, there's a dividing system in there. Otherwise, it wouldn't be approved for on- road use.
Often, the divider only holds a portion of the fluid, so that the reservoir looks empty, and the float drops and lights the 'brake' light-
but the intact circuit still has plenty of reserve fluid to actuate the brakes.
