2015 F250 CP4 Fuel System

I know this has been discussed like 1000 times here, but I’m tired and broke down six hours from home with the truck, trailer, and race car in Willow Springs, MO. My truck has been going into limp mode Reduced Engine Power and Low Fuel Pressure das warnings. On the way home today four hours into the trip the truck just shut down. I have no start condition. I can only assume it’s the CP4 pump at this point. Getting a quote to get everything towed home tomorrow.

Anyway, the truck is deleted. It does not have a “kit” on it. Does anyone have a complete list of part numbers that are required to do this repair? I can do the job…I think…I just need to know what I need to order and from where. I see several places sell the pumps, but everything I’ve read and watched says to expect the worst.

Thanks in advance.

Wow I hate to see this but my 1st thought was that just last week I changed my fuel filters & got the reduced power warning along with the low fuel pressure message. Come to find out my fuel bowl was 1 turn from being fully tightened, the stop tab has been broken off of the fuel bowl since I've owned the truck & I thought I had counted the turns but must have miss counted.
Just a thought but have you changed filters recently? Can you hear your frame mount fuel pump kick on ? Any chance of a pressure leak along the lines under the truck ?
Good luck buddy & I really hope it's not your CP4 pump

Thanks for the reply. I did change filters about 1000 miles ago. I’ll check it this morning before they tow us home, but it doesn’t seem like that thing would work it’s way loose. I suppose anything is possible.

Most of the performance diesel sites have a kit for this repair. S&S has a new pump that eliminates the CP4. There is also a new CP4 that is supposed to be fail proof. I’ve used Full Force Diesel for many repairs and they have pretty good rep, I think.

Thank you. I checked the frame rail pump this morning before I stroked a $3500 check for towing my truck and 38’ trailer from MO to AL. It’s working fine.

Typically if the CP4 pump fails many times it shoots metal shavings throughout the fuel system so you are looking at a total fuel system replacement including fuel lines, both pumps, injectors and all associated components. Many times you can successfully clean the fuel tank but be extra careful about this.

About a month ago I purchased the new S&S replacement pump and had it installed, $1900.00 through Thorough Bred Diesel, and $2000.00 for labor to get it done. One of my smarter decisions. Truck actually seems to run better

So what are the actual tests for CP4 pump failure?

Pull off the intake manifold to get to the inlet metering valve on top of the CP4 and if it has glitter on the filtering screen on the bottom, you need a new fuel system.

Got towed home yesterday...$3500.00. Great towing experience and company though. Midway Towing in Pomona, MO...https://midway-towing.com/. Found several local shops to that can do the repair quickly and as far as I'm concerned cheap enough with a 12 month warranty for me to now have to deal with it...$6000.00. Hoping to get them started on it tomorrow.

Going to pull both filters tonight to see what they look like.

Both filter canisters appeared to have some shiny particles in them.

Called the shop back this morning that quoted me $6K to replace the new fuel system. Well...they changed their tune. Today it was $11K. Turns out they only quoted me parts...which I can buy for $4800. Anyway, moved on from them. Found another shop on the same street with excellent online reviews that quoted me $7K (parts and labor) and will install the disaster prevention kit for the same price if I supply it. So I ordered a S&S DPK today. They are coming to get the truck on Friday...fingers crossed.

Good luck buddy, keep us posted on the progress please.
Is the shop using OEM parts or trying mix & match stuff ?

If your existing pump is trashed, instead of getting own why not get the S&S DCR pump kit with the repair?
