2008 Escape steering wheel shimmy while stopped
When coming to a stop, doesn't seem to matter if it's a quick stop or a slow roll to stop, once stopped the steering wheel will shimmy very slightly 1 or 2 degrees back and forth, and there will be a slight sort of grinding noise. Not a horrible noise like gearbox gears. Maybe like metal to metal grinding, like you'd expect when you have no brake pad left (except the car is never moving at all when it makes the noise. Applying the brakes a bit more, or rolling forward 6-10" then stopping again will make both symptoms cease.
It doesn't always do it, but will do it maybe every 6 to 8 stops.
I pulled both front wheels and can't see anything amiss. Front brake pads will be due for replacement before too long, but they are probably 3/16" or so pad left.
Both rotors look fine.
Sound like anything anyone's ever experienced?
Regards,
Tom
