2006 Escape Hybrid transmission shudder/stutter
in winter at below 32F, the transmission has an occasional stutter (or shudder)when shifting at around 3000 rpm at around 45-50 mph.I took it to the transmission shop and they found the transmission fluid low and added some to bring it up to level. This reduced the frequency of occurrence, but didn’t completely eliminate it.
It occasionally happens at normal temperature if one aggressive drives with foot on the accelerator on a on-ramp while accelerating to traffic speed but is mostly avoided by driving conservatively but is readily observed at -10F even when the vehicle would seem to be warmed up after driving 20 miles or so…
Wondering if any others has experienced this?
Considering a transmission fluid change is needed due to age of fluid and miles on the vehicle.
Also wondering if there might be pressure diaphragms, plates, or something needed to be changed? I’m not so familiar with this transmission and the gear shift controls, but stutter behavior is much like a prior owned dodge caravan’s transmission coil solenoid pack failure.
I found the following YouTube video suggesting to me that the cold winter temperatures might be causing the transmission adaptation table to require retraining. I did not know that Ford has implemented adaptive shifting technology into their transmissions beginning in 2006.
I see the description of the Lubegard product online and will give it a try.
The change of the transmission fluid by itself resulted in the same behavior as before. But it was good to have the fluid change done so then I can try out this product knowing that I am starting with clean transmission fluid.
