We own a 2014 Ford Escape SE 4wd, Have not had any actual problems with the vehicle except a few rear wheel sensors, had a new battery installed by Ford 2 years ago, Took to Ford dealership because radio/sync/phone all stopped working, Ford called said vehicle died when tech drove it into shop, asked if we were having problems, we said no because we were not, a little while later tech called and said battery was bad and wanted Ok to replace it, we told them it was still under warranty they had just replaced it, anyway they warrunteed the battery but said the radio would be $2000 to repair/replace....$2000 for a radio....but I have no other option...just ranting
So here is the update, Ford had to order a new radio and we are waiting for it to v=come in to be installed, But the old radio is now working again and has been for 2 days, It started working again after 5 start and stops with the new battery installed , so here is my problem, If I don't take it back and have the new $2000 radio installed I will have to pay the $289 dealer diagnostic fee and the radio may fail again so I would be forced to pay that fee a second time if the old radio fails, My question is it really the radio or was it a result of the battery which was still under warranty...So do I pay $2000 for a radio I may not actually need or do I pay the $289 diagnostic fee and hope the radio is OK.
girlfriend had a 2011 edge. my touch it would stop and start working eventually it quit working all together. i found a replacement part on ebay for 500.00 and replaced it. it works fine .not sure if its same issue as yours on google it was a issue on the 2011 Edge. black screen i think they called it
Did you sign something to pay a diagnostic fee? I’m not against paying for their time, but just seems hefty. And the whole situation seems suspect.
We are having all sorts of issues with our Sync3 in a 2020 Transit 68k miles. Doesn’t recognize it has hotspot, rear view camera locks it up, FordPass quit. If they tell me $2k fix for a radio, I’ll trade it in. There is no way I’d pay 5% of a vehicles worth to fix a radio that is probably due to cheap electronics.

The screen worked, you could maneuver thru most of the functions just no sound and the phone would not sync

Yes, you have to sign an agreement before they will accept the vehicle, Yes it is a hefty fee, I can't imagine telling a prospective customer in my business that they have to pay me a fee to diagnose a problem on a vehicle they sold me and yes I am sure it has a lot to do with cheap electronics
Unfortunately replacing modules requires some programming or configuration. Those proficient in Forscan can do this but it takes a long team to reach that proficiency. Used modules for your 2014 are relatively inexpensive. The actual radio, ACM module, is around $150. The module for SYNC functions, APIM, is a little more expensive. I would want to know what error codes the dealership found and which module they are replacing. For $2k I would find an independent shop that can diagnose this. Good mechanic with scan tool should be able to figure it out.
