The PA Chapter's "Final Chapter" December 2023 Chat and B/S Thread
Coming at you a bit late this time, forgot to post this last night.
Here we are, the last month of the year. Seems like yesterday we were just getting started. Time flies when you're having fun and even when you're not lol. The holidays are around the corner and a new year awaits. It's been an extremely busy year for me and at least right now there's no sign that's changing going in to 2024.
There's not much else for me to say...you know what to do so do it
Howdy. Saturday stop before I head to the gym. Since it got to 60*, took advantage to get some things done outside after dropping off some old, decent condition 98 parts off to a friend who had a minor accident with his earlier this week.
Good morning, Gang! My daughter and I did the first service on her Tuscon that grandma just gave her. It's a 2016 with 55k on it. Grandma stated that there were no issues with it and she had it serviced regularly local to her. First thing I noticed was the wear on the tires. The fronts were almost to the wear bars while the rears were more the 50%. Clear evidence of no rotations. The fronts also showed evidence of underinflation even though they were good when we checked them. There wasn't any anti-seize on the wheels, so I had to pound them off to do the rotation. I needed a breaker bar to get the oil drain plug out. The oil filter had evidence of blow-by all around it. (We had already noticed it eating oil, but attributed it to the turbo.) Once I got it off and compared it to the new one, the gasket from the old one fit fully inside the gasket from the new one. Not even close! Turns out the filter that was on it was some off brand (Mighty) and for a Polaris Razr! The final straw(s) were the air filters. Both were the OE air filters. They were black and clogged! They live in a finished housing plan in the burbs. No dirt roads or local construction. Clearly never changed.
I know my mother-in-law managed her own maintenance. She just took it someplace local and trusted them to "do whatever it needs" every 5k. I'm not mad at her, but I am furious with that shop. I will be contacting them and possibly escalating this depending on how they respond. I know most of you are DIY guys, but just a warning for buyer beware!

Wow, that’s insane. Considering the Polaris filter, even aftermarket, is probably more expensive than the one for that car. Unless they had one laying around the shop they just threw in.
