Got a 2023 f350. It appears the roof has a place for cross bars but I can’t find any.
there is a black strip on each side of roof with what appears to be attachment points.
anyone know if that’s what they are for.

FYI you'll usually have better luck with responses if you add a few pictures. I bought a Menabo "Delta" roof rack for my 2022, which has clips that tighten to the lip inside the doors, and pads that sit above the doors. My truck does have black rubber strips that run alongside the roof, and the rack pads do sit partially on those. Nothing on my truck had to be modified, and I only install the rack when I need it because it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to install or remove. Pricing on the Menabo was about 1/3 the cost of better known brands, and my kayaks only weigh about 40 pounds each, so that's the route I went. I was actually surprised at how good the quality was and it's worked well for me.
For your truck you'll need to enter specifics before you buy anything to make sure the system fits, and I can't comment on any changes between the 22 and 23 model years. FYI, NEVER strap your stuff down with the straps pulled straight like they show in my 3rd picture. If you do pull them straight the straps will blow like a reed and it will sound like you have a wild hog on your roof. Always twist your straps! LOL
Your doing the exact same. I have a 5th and carry kayak’s.
I had a older vehicle and had the same type of rack that went into the door edges.
with the new truck I see it has places for attaching things if I remove the plastic cover.
this company has one but I want to use my old bars and such. https://sherpaec.com/products/thunder
was hoping Thule made new ones but not yet.

If you send Thule or Yakima an email they usually respond with timing of new products.

Interesting, I never removed the plastic strips on my 2022, don't know what's under there. One thing I do know for sure is that $1349.00 is beyond my price tolerance!
Menabo racks are made in Italy, and Omac is the official USA dealer. I just checked and they still offer the rack I bought for my 2022, about $250 for the kit which didn't include cradles.

Got my roof rack at E-Trailer.com. You talk with them and they'll give you a shopping list to get you what you need. I got a system to carry kayaks. works great. Easy install.
