So far, we've ordered 2 and had to send them back. One was too short, one was too tall. Both tanks were Dorman brand, unless they sent the wrong one.
The one we are replacing is approx 12.5 to 13" tall. I believe it's the 25 Gallon tank. But, not sure how to tell. Can't find any part numbers or anything. All I can get is the measurements. Can any one help?
You may never find them but there should be numbers stamped along the seam or flange or just stamped into the bottom of the tank
That should tell you how many gallons it is or be able to have Ford tell you an obsolete part number
You should be able to use any of the tanks they send but you'll need the straps and a different sender
My understanding is there are only 2 factory sizes. The bigger one is close to even height above and below the seam. The smaller is noticably asymetrical. Usually the 33 gallon was held up by a skid plate, and the 25 gallon had straps holding it up, but that is less reliable, there are skid plates for 25 gallons and people change things. Here's a picture I stole off the internet to compare:
If you are getting the wrong size you might try ordering from a more specialized vendor like Bronco Graveyard. They aren't everyone's favorite vendor, but they do know about Broncos.
Update: Went ahead and ordered the 25 gallon tank from LMC. I accidentally ordered the Non EEC one, but it was the right size. Had to make a slight modification and drill my own hole for the EEC port. Only issue, the vent next the the filler tube was a different orientation. So, just rerouted the hose slightly. I think it will be just fine.
