So I left my home and forgot my phone, no biggie was going to be gone for an hour or so. I thought I would try out Alexa thinking it was going through my phone connection and wanted to see what the response was. I was shocked when I got my podcast, any music song I wanted..etc. Yes I pay the monthly fee for Alexa/Ford streaming, but thought the phone had to be with you. Pretty neat.
Uses the internet connection that is built in, same connection your phone uses for a wifi signal in the truck.
They put that alexa crap onto mine in an update without asking me, and I sure didn't want it.

it's all fun and games until someone forgets to wipe the info when a vehicle is sold/traded in and someone else gets a hold of all your personal data.
I wipe my vehicles as we are moving stuff out of one and to the new vehicle. Only takes a few seconds in the infotainment system and she's back to factory settings. Glove box, console, infotainment, door pockets, etc.
Here's my Ford Bronco Raptor I got rid of in May. Dealership never wiped it. I still have access to it.
Sad thing is they paid me 95K, they were trying to sell it for 120 and now it's listed for 93. Suckers!
I had a heck of a time getting the dealer to clear some Ram / Dodge vehicles off my Uconnect...after two weeks, I started to remote start it. By the third time, it was removed.

Pretty much a normal thing nowadays... Not going to "not" get a phone because I will have to reset the old one... Lol

Life happens, you don't always get to relinquish possession of your car under perfect circumstances. The more people are stressed, the less likely they are to remember wiping data from their car.
Sometimes people end up not having access to the car due to impounds, waiting for repairs, etc. Say your truck breaks down far from home and has to stay there waiting a few months for parts, is wiping data from the connected devices your first priority? Probably not.
The comparison to a phone is a perfect example. Your phone is a major part of your life and when you change phones, it is an integral step of the process to set up the new one, so you are unlikely to forget to wipe the old one, and the cell carrier will remind you to do so. But a car? it is but one of the connected devices associated with your phone and it not being wiped does not scream "you missed a step". Car dealerships are not likely to make a point of asking your to forget the device and clear out the synced data.
I keep my phone connected to as few devices as possible for this reason. I actually work in a technology heavy field and our data security rules always stress to minimize seeding the info in places where it requires the user to remember to wipe. But hey, what do I know, I only live part time on Github. LOL.
