I currently have an F450 on order with a build date the third week of Oct. I was waiting for the pricing to finally be released thinking I was going to get 2% off MSRP. Well, the dealer is only discounting $100! I also get a military discount through Ford as well so $600 off MSRP. Is that a deal you all would still take?
Not me. I know it is still a bit of a seller's market, and I have only bought a few new vehicles in my lifetime. But I have always bought below invoice. You take a bath buying a new vehicle, as it is. Paying above invoice is unacceptable to me. I would have to be under duress and without other options to pay more.
If the truck has everything you want go for it. Last place you want to ask about what is a good deal is on a Internet forum. Most of these guys will try to convince you the dealer begged them to buy it at 25% off. Just be careful when you close the deal the dealer doesn't try to hose you with a bunch of extra fees and add on's
Thanks for your replies. The truck is a Lariat Ultimate custom ordered with the options I wanted minus the H.O. 6.7. After asking around on here and talking to other owners, I could not justify the $2500 price tag for 25hp and 150ftlbs of torque. Maybe if I was towing super heavy, but in this case my 5th wheel is only about 17k.
If I had ordered from another dealer I would have gotten it cheaper, but they could not guarantee that Ford would take up the order. The dealer I ordered it from said they would guarantee that Ford would take up the order, which worked because I have a build date and a VIN.
I have since dug around on the internet and found most places mark these things up 10-20k! So I figured it would still be an ok deal.
so I take it they won't at least go x plan pricing? To tell you the truth if you don't buy it someone will right away.
While I am familiar with the term, I don't know what that actually equates to.
Truth be told, I ordered the truck through Military AutoSource which is available to service members serving overseas. If you order it through them, it is basically a guarantees that you will never pay over MSRP, that the vehicle is built, and you can select date of delivery. They said they would price match if I got a quote from a Ford dealer, which I did and now I am waiting to hear back. I just don't think they are going to drop the price an additional $6,500 and they will find a way to say no.
x plan is under invoice. a plan for certain groups of people. Disabled veterans who are members of the DAV can get it. there are other groups. Most dealers right now are not participting due to supply and demand.
To me it boils down to you either want or need and will pay the best price or deal you can work in todays environment or wait and try again when market conditions change and favor the buyer.
Senix, thanks for the reply and the information. I wish I had a crystal ball to see what the future market looks like. At this point and given the price direction of the trucks and striking UAW, I don't think the market will return to "normal" at within the next year or two. By then, MSRP will increase, along with the price of everything else. I will probably stay the course. Worst case, I can probably flip the truck and make decent money on it then order an F350 lol.
Ultimately, this is a safety margin thing for my wife and I. Our GD390 RK needs a dually as my current RAM 3500 CCLB SRW does not give us the warm and fuzzy when in any sort of wind or rough roads (I dont care what the internet says about SRW and big 5th wheels lol). I have about 6,000 miles on the current combination so I am well aware of its limitations and our comfort while towing with it.
If you want an F-450 take it. They are hard to come by and getting one without a big mark up over MSRP is probably a good deal in this market. You will love the way it handles your 5th wheel.
Thanks ScottZ99! While I dont think the F450 has the power my RAM does, I know it has the stability...and a warranty lol. I am glad to hear from you that this will be a well-matched combination. Thanks for that feedback.
To be fair, my RAM is heavily modified and a lot of "things" have fallen off of it and I regeared it to 4.10s. When I put the tuner on kill (A.K.A. 180hp), it is a beast and has shocked a few sports cars on an on ramp or stop light lol. It has the power, but being SRW is where the issue is with it.
Personally i would probably go for it but my experience in trying to order a F450 was the dealer demanding 8k markup to even order. I didnt really need a 450 so ill keep my 22 and add a second rear axle if that ford patent ever hits market
I was able to order two F450's. Both dealers accepted A plan on the order. I'm probably only going to take 1 of them. Both will be built here in October. If anyone is looking, let me know, i'll get you in touch with one of the dealers. Both black, 6.7HO, Lariat Ultimate. Chrome package.
