Greetings,
I have an 87 F250 with a 460 and a C6 (still carbureted), The 2 V-belts going to the power steering pump started to squeal when the speed got above 60 mph, so i decided to put new belts on it, and while it was all apart I decided to swap out the power steering pump and the pressure line, since both were original to the truck and I drive it a lot and wanted to do some preventative maintenance. My first problem is that I can't get the new pressure line to quite leaking where the fitting meets the pump. I've tightened it up, I've taken it off and put it back on and its always the same: it seals for a few days and then starts leaking again...I think I should have just left the old parts on there lol. Has anyone else run into this? Is the line just defective? What did I miss? The line came from the local parts store. Problem 2: The 2 belts going to power steering pump still squeal when you romp the gas or when when you hit 70 mph. I'm thinking the pulleys are bad or they are out of alignment? Any ideas? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I drive the truck a lot and these two problems are a bit aggravating.
The high pressure line leaked on mine, when I replaced the pump and I had ruined the o ring on it from tightening it too much. I pulled it off and the o ring was split in half. So I replaced the o ring and I also put teflon tape on the threads of it and it fixed the leak.
what kind of O-ring did you have? mine is plastic, looks more like a washer than an O-ring. Should I peel it off of there and put a rubber O-ring on it?
I have a rubber o ring. I think there are plastic washers and o rings depending on application. My reman pump came with the rubber o ring and a white washer thing. I chose to use the o ring because that was previously on the high pressure line. I'm not sure if you should take it off or not, someone else here could probably tell you. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-fittings.html
