I have a 1993 with the original head unit. In the morning when my truck is cold the radio makes a awful high pitched hum. It also happens when the engine is off. Once the engine is warm and the outside temperature is warm, the whine is gone. I believe it could be a loose ground or antenna. I just upgraded speakers and they sound much nicer than original, but they aren't the problem as the whine is still there. I have no clue where to start and would much appreciate info on this type of problem.
This is the 5th OBS I have owned and never seen one without it. Maybe that is your issue? Just looked at my 95 and there is one connection on the hood and one on the firewall. I would imagine the hood is the one.

That is more what my wiring setup is. My truck is a 93. Whenever I hit a big bump when driving, the tone of the hum changes.
Your problem is most likely 99% inside the unit if clearly time based from cold to warm.
The braided ground straps to things that have no electrical component (hood, rocker panels, etc.) have been reported to be for Radio Frequency Interference.
To reject it as well as contain. Think Faraday cage.
I'd try swapping out capacitor that is mounted to the coil frame.
If still there you could pick up a radio JY spare, (not necessarily an exact match, base unit would be fine), plug it in & see.
