I've put on new battery cable ends, new alternator, new alternator wiring harness, new belt tensioner, checked all the fuses and nothing.the exciter wire is getting about 3.5v.the battery llights on. Though there was tape over it.someone in the past has cut the fusible link with the 5 wires by the starter solenoid but has been wirking this way for some time. Even drove it 2 hours home.battery accepts a charge from other vehicle. Solenoid was recently replaced too.I get 0v from the alternator despite exciter getting voltage. Im taking the alternator to get checked in the next couple of days. I'm open to any and all suggestions.
The dash gauge is part of the charging circuit and if the vehicle has the wrong dash cluster the alternator won't produce a charge voltage.
I've had the truck about 6 months but I don't drive it often just yet. The dash is original. The light is on. The exciter is getting voltage to the alternator to turn on. The symptoms were slow coming on. It'd be difficult to start or it'd start jerking while driving like it's trying to die then it'd run fine. So that's why it doesn't get driven much. Then finally it did die while driving.
all wires on starter relay should be on the battery side. one small push on on the small terminal, and the cable going to starter on other large lug. looks like you have wires crossed. not sure on that connector what is battery and what is starter.

that red wire you see on thr battery side is from the alt. Someone spliced together the yellow and white wires and added that to connect it. Ive tried swapping to the other side but it made no difference. There is 0 power going to it according to my multimeter. I'll go switch it though. Really curious if those other wires in thr fusible link that aren't connected are playing a role here. Know what they do?

If the single "add on" wire is on the battery side, you need to move the two wire connector over to battery side. That will only get power when starter is engaged
