E40D noise when put in gear

E40D noise when put in gear
I have a 91' F-150. A couple of days ago it started making this groan noise when I would put it in reverse or drive.
When you drive it it shifts fine, there is no noise and the fluid looks fine, but I'm telling you this noise sounds bad, it only lasts a second but its almost like somthing is binding up when you put it into gear.
If anyone has experienced this or has a clue what it is please let me know I would appreciate it.
