My 01 Expedition has a habit of running well no issues when park it for the day. The next morning there can be an issue of some sort. Today it is a low fuel light with 3/4 of a tank. Pull the battery cable and put it back on all gauge's full sweep, measure from the cluster and I read apx.11.5v, same wire back to the tank no ohm reading to body ground. At this point I had to move on to other chores because I didn't have anything to probe the connector with, but it does look like the wire could be damaged.
My crystal ball says if I don't get a ohm reading from the sender loop im looking at a sender or ground issue.
It is my understanding this vehicle is backaswords to most by low ohms = empty and higher ohms is full (14- 150 ohms) if true I would need to have a resister in line to check the gauge end of the circuit. Yes/No maybe :-).

I've been ignorein thos one and of corse it came back to bite me on the but. I've been using milage to determine refueling stops, well I was enjoying the ride so much I brezed right past the fuel stations until the Exped. decided enough was enough. I missed the station by few short miles. AAA to the rescue, and I'm still usin milage LOL Life is Good!!!
I had time to look into this issue before the rain came. At the connector in front of the LR wheel, I measured apx 11v coming from the cluster (ye wire) and less than 1 ohm looped thru the sender (ye to blk/og), That points to the sender in my book, I need a resistor apx 150 ohms in order to verify the gauge operation. I have till November to resolve this issue (smog due). No worries cuz there is a workaround for this so it won't toss a code/CEL and can pass testing.. Fuel pump assy is not cheap, and I've tried just changing the sender only to have the pump go out. Something else to research, like the learning curve isn't steep enough LOL. I used to tell My boss: if I learn that I might forget something else cuz it's pretty full in there. He would laff then tell me to get out and go make him some money.. I think I'll put this issue AWAP (awaiting parts) and move on to the next ticket.
2001 Ford Expedition 5.4, 2wd, 26g fuel tank, 0/2000 build date
Researching parts is mind numbing. #1 question What Is The Freakin Difference between like components. I'll cut the chase and stay on point.
Fuel Pumps??? I understand the data differences between manufactures specifications, and I'm sure no matter which one i pick it will function. But tiring to determent which one is best for my application is more than confusing. There is a 2wd w auto ride height, 2wd wo auto ride height and a 4wd fuel pump listed. I'm 2wd so we can boot the 4wd pump. Leaving with or without auto ride height, well My truck came with, but was changed to without. My best guess is the pump listed "with auto ride height" I still would like to know what the is a difference between the with or without pump when they have the same spec sheet listed (I checked several different manufactures) .
I did find 1 document referring to fuel tank volume, but it was just a be sure to get the right one notice. When I finally picked one (the cheapest), it said it could not be shipped to CA..... WTF When I found one that could be shipped here it was over double the price of the one that could not, Go Figure... Now pick a name brand Delphi, Carter ect.. try doubling it again.
If someone has an answer it sure would give me a warm and fuzzy feeling along with some peace of mind
Thanks Mike/EZ
Eurika, I found it./ Oh yea that is the state moto here in CA LOL. But I did or did I?
Ok putting aside the differances in fuel pressures and flows between manufactures the important spec. is the fuel tank volume.
The 2wd standard suspension is listed in the manual as 26gal
The 2wd w/auto ride height is listed as 30 gal
Them I found couple of manufactures that only had 1 pump listed as 2wd I can only assume it must be spring loaded. so it can be used on either Just a guess. IDRK
Now toss the 4wd in to the mix cuz it is listed as 30gal I'm back to scratching my head. Simple elimination would point me to the fuel pump with auto ride height because I have a 2wd with a 30gal tank. ULTRA-POWER E2252S 2wd
this pump less than 50 bucks, fitment guide says it fits, but no spec's listed, My concern is this pump has no specs listed and is 1/3 of the price of the others (an it's not a closeout) . I'm thinking of buy it just on price alone. because a brand name pump cha-ching the big bucks.
What to buy, What to buy?? Mike/EZ
PS: I hope this saves someone some time and frustration.
