2017 F250 coolant leaking at what I thought was called the "Upper Radiator Hose". I've looked through most of the threads on coolant leaks here and saw that the O-ring that needs to be replaced was HC3Z-8590-A. Picked up the part from the dealer and went to replace it and saw a noticeable size difference between the original and new O-ring. Would someone have the correct part number that is in the hose connecting to the top portion of the radiator (circled blue in the pic)
Thanks 4wd6.7L, HC3Z-8590-A, just picked up BC3Z-8590-F from dealer it's is even smaller than HC3Z-8590-A. Neither HC3Z-8590-A or BC3Z-8590-F are the correct part, both way to small to fit in the hose that connects to the upper portion of the radiator.
Damn, it sounded like the correct part based on that other thread. The parts person at the dealer hasn't been able to help? Kinda messed up that they would let you buy the wrong O ring twice.
Live about an hour away from dealer, wife works about 5 minutes away from there, so she's the one who's been dealing with them. I'll be headed to them tomorrow, so hopefully no more wrong parts.
That looks like a 1/8" wide, 2 3/8" OD, 2-1/8" ID oring, but hard to tell if it's round or square. Verify the dimensions and you can get them on Amazon for like $10 for 10 of them if you keep having trouble with the dealer. Buna-N would probably work but I'd probably go with Viton and about 70 durometer.
The parts guys at the dealer don't typically sell just the O ring unless you ask for it. They are instructed to sell a new hose assembly with the O rings already in it. So they're guessing just as much as you are. I had to figure this out the same way you are now.
Did you take the old O ring in with you and do a size comparison? At one point I just told the kid at the counter to find me an O ring that matched this size.
I've had that one leak at about 125k miles on my 2017. Then last year the lower one went to leaking at 140k. Both when it was sitting outside in below-zero weather. Radiator got replaced and I had them change all the o-rings while they were at it. Having the VIN handy is the best way to get the correct parts from the dealer.
What kind of bad omen did you put on me yesterday?! I was rotating my tires and noticed a small coolant puddle. Traced the leak to the O ring at the bottom of the primary degas bottle. So now I'm off to the dealer to find a new O ring. This is your fault!
And if Ford would have stuck with using a simple and proven hose clamp the OP wouldn't be posting this.
OP,
Hope you get your leak fixed.
I agree and disagree at the same time. Every time I work on one of these hoses, I'm so glad I don't have to replace the entire damn hose when nothing's wrong except the O ring. And every time I try to find the right O ring, I wonder what's wrong with good ole hose clamps.
For anyone needing the part number for the coolant hose from the bottom of the primary degas bottle, it is BC3Z-8590-A. It shows that it fits 6.7s 2011-2020.
Also learned today that Ford's new yellow coolant is backward compatible with Orange.
2017 f250 with 130k miles and mine appears to be leaking from both the top radiator connection and at the thermostat connection.
BC3Z-8590-C is the correct o ring for the connection at the radiator end but does anyone have the part number for the O ring on the opposite side? I found HC3Z-8590-A but can anyone confirm?
