couple questions here…
I can’t get the bearing off the shaft. Looking at the sketch below (borrowed from Mr. NumberDummy) it looks like a threaded sleeve after the bearing.
Mine will not budge. The bearing was not spinning at all, that’s probably what destroyed the rubber holding it.
Anyone taken this apart? What’s the trick?
Next - some of the parts seem to be unattainable. Not finding a source for 4826, 4805, 4807 or 7077 shown in that schematic.
Is there a replacement assembly you folks have found to work?
now some pics…
4832 and 4833 can be found on eBay.
The carrier and the shaft cleaned up very nicely and took some Por15
Call Chuck at Chuck's Trucks. He set me up with all the parts for mine. I had to have the bearing removed by someone with the right tools to do it and it was trashed when it came off. The new center bearing is a sealed bearing so it does not need to be greased.
Thanks 8pack!
I'll look 'em up.
Did yours have the threaded cap piece # 7077 ?
Yes, I have that part. There is also a “star” collar that slides in under that cap and into the grooves on the shaft. I also believe there is a felt seal there.
The diagram shows a whole bunch of parts that make up the bearing assembly. What you will get from Chuck is a complete sealed bearing which goes inside the rubber damper which then goes inside the steel carrier. You need a little grease or silicone to get the damper in place (with the bearing already in it) into the carrier along with a small screw driver to tuck in any of the rubber edges down into the carrier that won’t allow it to seat. put the bearing in first or there as there is no way to get it in with the rubber damper already in place.
in your picture The bearing is retained by a steel collar. Mine had to be cut off to press the bearing off. Chuck also has that part. I would replace it either way.
If you have other questions I can take a closer look at the parts I have. Mine is still all apart.
These are pretty straight forward. The sealed bearing is inside the damper and came complete and the damper is inserted into the carrier. You can see the small collar around the splined shaft slid under the bearing.
The carrier assembly was pressed on and that’s it for that section.
My guy tried pressing it off and it just distorted so he ended up carefully removing it with a cut off tool and some vice grips for twisting so as not to damage the shaft. Just a little careful man handling will get you there.
good luck! Keep us updated on the progress and how it goes back together. I can’t remember how it all came apart so I am looking forward to seeing you reassemble it.
