Here lately when I fire up my truck I can see some black smoke coming out of the exhaust at idle, usually more so when the truck is cold or just been plugged in for a little while. It’s also has fairly smelly exhaust when warming up work since i cant plug it in there. The highest reading I’ve seen from my EBPS is 13.0 but thats the max, I’ve seen as low as 2 or 3 psi so I’m fairly certain my sensor is junk. Does this sound pretty accurate from both the readings and smelly exhaust? My MAP reading shows what it should be for atmospheric pre and boost.
I’m trying to get everything cleaned up and running in top shape and the exhaust pressure and smoke are about what’s left to fix. If the sensor will help make a step towards getting the exhaust to quit stinking ill be happy but I’ve got a feeling I’ll be pulling the injectors and sending them in to have them checked out. Stupidly I ran way too high fuel pressure for a while and have a feeling I messed up the nozzles. But one step at a time, luckily a cheaper item before the injectors. So I guess I’m looking for confirmation on the EBPS issue and then messing with injectors before camping season.
I’ll doubt check the filter but last I messed with it it was fairly clean.
The tube is clean for sure, I spent over a half hour running trimmer line through it till I got nothing coming out of it. I think the sensor i replaced was bad, never confirmed since I didn’t have forscan at the time, and my current sensor I think was an eBay purchase and I don’t recall if it was even in ford plastic.
Your EBP sensor has to be bad. If the tube is clean, it should read atmospheric pressure KOEO. I have no idea if this has anything to do with your black smoke issue.
That’s what I’m hoping, bad sensor. The black smoke on start up just seemed like since the pcm uses the exhaust sensor to determine fuel use if it’s reading low it would out more fuel in. But like I said I think my injectors might be messed up some as well so could be multiple things causing the smoke. Just trying to step it out, easiest first and cheaper.
Planning on ordering through clay, been a while since I got a package with yellow tape. Getting close to due for a trans fluid/ filter change so can add that filter with it.
It’s at start up then as the truck sits idling for a bit or even as I start driving some. It does it more, atleast lately, if I didn’t plug the truck in overnight when the temps were in the 30s. As to the smell it smells really rich/ stong. I’ve been told before that could only happen if the nozzles were messed up and it seems to be getting worse since I first noticed it last year or before. I’ll see if I can get a video of the smoke soon. The other thing that gives me some concern for the injectors is when it was pretty cold a while back the truck sat unplugged for 9 hours I think and when it fired up it stumbled for a couple seconds like it had worn out injectors. And that was with T6 shell oil in it.
That’s what I’ve been seeing here. Not sure if I want to spend more money and be sure what I’m getting is better or risk sending mine in to check and repair if needed. If that would even be a cost efficient option. I know I’d be upset with myself for messing up a set of injectors due to negligence on my part but I’d really hate to send mine in and get them, or others, returned that are in bad shape then when I could spend the money and buy a currently well recommended injector set.
Got a broken wire by chance? Ive seen 0 on mine but it was briefly. Mine likes to fluctuate and I’ve never seen above 13.3 in the last year
On my injectors, would I be smart to stick with similar sized or would a set of the 160/30s be more favorable? I run the truck empty most of the time and pull my 10k fifth wheel during the warmer months. The bigger sticks are nice for more power potential but honestly with the sensor issue and possible nozzle issues I’m probably not getting the power potential out of the big ones to begin with. And the 160s are several hundred cheaper. Yes I realize it boils down to personal preference but you guys love helping spend other people money
1023 Diesel has some pretty good videos on Utube. It seems in some cases, a set of Alliant AC's may be the best value if towing heavy and/or not looking for huge dyno numbers for bragging rights.
